Round the boards

THE most remarkable end-of-season scrap for the Middleton Men's Thursday League title took place last week.

Woodside WMC took the championship by half a point from Kings Arms.

That was the difference between them as they went into their last matches of the season.

Kings went 4-0 up at Railway and Linnet and Woodside went 3-1 down to Boarshaw.

It looked as though the crown was heading for Kings, but Railway and Linnet won the last three games and Woodside came back to win 4-3 thanks to Ian Slattery, Mick Murphy and Peter Bratton.

The Monday League, completed this week, saw Junction go into the last round of matches with a half-point advantage over Joiners.

Both contenders won 4-3, Junction against third-placed Victoria and Joiners against Gardeners Arms.

Archer topped the Gallon table by seven points from Cotton Tree.
