Winning start to defence
27/ 5/2004
MOSTON began their defence of the Peregrination Greater Manchester Amateur Cricket League Challenge Cup with a comfortable six wicket victory over Shawclough Village.
Shawclough were soon in trouble as Dave Edwards removed an opener with his first ball.
Glen Chapel-Brooks was brought back into the side at the expense of Glen Collinge and proved that Collinge will have a fight on his hands to regain his place as he took five for 20.
Sam Brook carried on from last week with a haul of four for 20 as Shawclough were reduced to 78 all out.
With Moston now plying their trade at Chorlton Cricket Club, former Chorlton opener Leon Deewoltsmahn was handed the opportunity to impress. That he did as he shared an opening stand of 50 with Andy Sowerby.
Deewoltsmahn made 32 before being caught in the deep and seems certain to become a regular in the Moston side.
Dave Edwards started the rout and also finished it as two superb boundaries pushed Moston past the Shawclough total inside 14 overs.
