Gomez faces Juuko in defence

WORLD super-featherweight champion Michael Gomez will make his first defence of the WBU title against former Commonwealth champion Justin Juuko. The bout will be at the Kingsway Sports Centre, Widnes, on Saturday.

Gomez was scheduled to face Bouziane Oudji, but the Frenchman withdrew due to injury and left Gomez with a much tougher task against Juuko.

Gomez said: "Juuko is a dangerous fighter. He is one of the roughest and toughest out there. He did a number on Gary Thornhill and Charles Shepherd over here, but he won't be doing the same to me. This is a make or break fight for Juuko. He knows that if he loses he is finished, but if he beats me he can go on to another big fight."

Michael Jennings, who fights out of the Collyhurst and Moston gym, features on the undercard.
