Priory reach Shield final

24/ 3/2004

PRIORY are through to the final of the BASSA League's Lowther Shield, but they had to be alert right up to the final whistle in their semi-final against Blackley Rangers.

With the wind behind them Priory took a 2-0 lead in the first half, thanks to goals from Brian Adams and Ian Moore.

Liam Dermody pulled one back for Rangers early in the second half, and when McDonald hit a post it seemed like an equaliser was on the way. But, despite having two more narrow escapes, Priory survived.

Prince Albert cruised through the other semi-final against Priory Unicorn. Joe Mellon and Paul Lyons scored two each, Tommy Macklin hit a 25-yard screamer, then right fullback John Quinn scored his first goal of the season to complete a 6-0 rout.

Admiral became joint league leaders with a 3-1 win over Radclyffe Arms. Michael McElvaney bagged Arms' consolation goal.

Nelson polished off Lamb Inn thanks to goals from Tommy Bates (3), Lee Dillon (2), Paul Lister, Chris Lomas and Brent Oliver. It finished 8-1.

Premier Autos went goal crazy against Ostrich. John Muir hit five and Fran Sisco claimed a hat-trick. David Haughton, Carl Bowles and Tony Carney completed a 12-0 win.
