Arms miss out on county final

RADCLYFFE Arms were beaten 2-0 in a semi-final of the Manchester County Cup.

The Middleton Sunday League team played well but had no luck going for them. Influential midfielder Carl Brogden broke a leg only three minutes into the match. Arms twice hit the bar and only conceded a second due to pushing players forward in search of an equaliser.

Langley Rangers continued their defence of the title with a 3-2 home win over Carters Rhodes. Ramplin, Howard and Worsley claimed their goals. Evans and Hall netted for Rhodes.

Old David shared four goals with Alliance in a basement clash. Durkin and Moore scored for the home team. Molyneaux and Hampson replied for Alliance.

Royal Oak were the highest placed team in action in Division One, and they were beaten 2-1 at home by Black Bull.
Cummins claimed the consolation for Oak.

One of the most entertaining games of the day saw Old Cock share eight goals with Cardinal Villa. Parks, Power, Corsby and Grantham netted for Cock. Waters and Derbyshire shared the strikes for Villa.

Goals from Carter, Butler and Phillips eased New White Lion to a 3-1 home win over Crown Inn for whom Finn scored.

Bricklayers' promotion hopes faded a little when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Hebers. Keogh was on the mark for Bricklayers and Dyson replied.

Field was the star of the Geoff Allen Memorial Trophy first round match between Railway and Higher Blackley Legion. He banged in a hat-trick to see Railway to a 4-1 win. Rafferty made up the home total. Bamber netted the consolation for Legion.
