FIVE lads from the Fox Amateur Boxing Club are making a mark for themselves in the ring.

Anthony Crolla recently beat two lads who had represented England, and this week Denton Vassell was unlucky to miss out on a title.

Vassell suffered the first defeat of his short career in the East Lancashire finals in Preston.

But the Moston man could hold his head high after pushing his vastly experienced opponent, England international Brian Rose, all the way.

This was Vassell's 10th bout and, against an opponent who has had more than 70 fights, he acquitted himself well.

Fox chief coach Jim Lewis wasn't too disappointed.

He said: "It's been a great learning experience for Denton."

"He's a good lad, but Rose just had too much experience for him."

"Denton took the defeat on the chin and I'm sure this will help him to improve."

"He's a talented lad and one to watch in the future."

In the semi-finals Vassell beat another very experienced boxer in Tonge ABC's Jonathan Hussey.
