Bob takes star billing at CLL dinner

HEYWOOD Cricket Club stalwart Bob Cross was top of the bill at the Central Lancashire Cricket League's annual presentation dinner held at Milnrow CC on Friday.
He was presented with the President's Cup for his long and dedicated service to the Heywood club and to the Central Lancashire League. Bob was surprised and delighted. He said: "First of all I would like to thank league president Alan Stuttard for choosing.
"The award usually goes to someone who has devoted a lot of time to league matters, whereas I have felt over the years, 45 in fact, that the need for my help was greater at Heywood Cricket Club. So I was surprised and delighted to receive this award."
Bob played for the Crimble side from 1957-74 and has been on the club committee for more than 40 years. He is the president of the club, a former chairman and was a member of the league management committee for a number of years.
Other awards were:
Frank Worrall Trophy - highest run scorer: Mark
Hooson of Walsden who scored 807 runs.
Clifford Pickup Trophy - most wickets - Sardar
Shah, Radcliffe with 80.
The Littleborough Supporters Club Trophy for best
all-rounder and the Lal Vohra Trophy for most improved
player were both won by Alan Durose of Werneth.
Former Yorkshire cricketer Arnie Sidebottom was the guest speaker and comedian Austin Knight provided the laughs.
