Keeper turns goal hero

20/11/2003

THE LOWTHER Shield took centre stage in the BASSA League last weekend, with Priory taking the limelight courtesy of a thumping
victory.

The hero of the day was goalkeeper Steve Naylor, who peeled off his gloves at half-time to score four goals. Bryan Adams hit the highest note though, netting nine times as Priory wrapped up a 19-2 victory. Bryan Love and Steve Lynch both grabbed hat-tricks to complete the rout.

Admiral advanced to the next round with a 10-3 win against Radclyffe Arms. Mike Marsh (3), W O'Loughlin (2) and Jamie Evans (2) were the main threat, with Ballen McCarthy, Anthony Smith and Steve Naylor also chalking up goals. Dave Dunlevy, Andy Morrisey and Mike McElvaney replied for Arms.

Thatched House beat Lamb Inn 4-0 and Premier Autos scored twice without reply against Nelson.

In league action, Prince Albert must have thought they were home and dry leading 3-0 at half-time against Blackley Rangers. But Liam Desmondy, Mick Moran (his first for the club) and Adam Blagg earned Rangers a share of the spoils.

The points were also even as Langworthy Lads drew 1-1 with Priory Union.
