Adams seals success for inter league team

THE BASSA League is through to the second round of the Greater Manchester inter-league knockout. They beat the Manchester Publicity League 4-2.

BASSA got off to a great start when Danny Gilmore chipped the keeper from 25 yards out, but the lead lasted only a minute as Gallagher equalised. Yarwood put Publicity in front after 60 minutes but BASSA were quick to level.

They were awarded a penalty but Adams had his kick superbly saved by Steve Jackson. A minute later Gilmore wriggled through the Publicity defence to fire a shot into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

BASSA started to dominate and their pressure told when Bragg lashed the ball home. Adams then made amends for the missed penalty to seal victory with the fourth goal.

On the domestic front, Blackley Rangers stopped Radclyffe Arms in their tracks with a 4-2 win. McElvaney put Arms in front but Studdley and Nuttall gave Rangers the lead before half time. McElvaney equalised to give Radclyffe hope but Studdley and McManus then finished them off.

Priory Unicorn's first win of the season could not have come in better style. They were 3-1 down in their home match against Langworthy Lads but goals from Eddifer (2), Gore and Unsworth earned Unicorn the points from a 4-3 win.

Admiral are mounting a challenge for a top four spot. They were 5-2 away winners over Nelson.

Smith netted a superb hat-trick. Lomas pulled two back, but Marsh and McCarthy made the points safe for Admiral.

At the bottom end of the table, Thatched House left Ostrich behind with a thumping 5-0 win.

A league meeting will be held on Tuesday at the Imperial Club, Delaneys Road, Crumpsall, start 8pm.
