Raquel sets her second new record

MANCHESTER Golf Club ace Raquel Whatmough has beaten the course record at Rossendale GC for the second time in a month.

Raquel, 32, shot a three-under-par 69 in the Lady Captain's Centenary competition to beat her previous best mark by one shot.

And the big hitter, who also plays at Manchester Gold Club, believes she can make it a hat-trick and smash the record again.

Raquel, from Norden, said: "I went out in 34 which is three under and was level on the way in. But I had a bogey on the 18th hole or I would have beaten the record by two shots. I am playing very well and just have to keep it up.

"I am enjoying it at the minute and delighted to break the course record again, but I think I can take it down even further."

Raquel's reward from captain Veronica Jones for winning the competition was a pair of 100 year old candle holders to mark the club's centenary year.

Raquel also turned in a decent performance at Royal Birkdale Scratch Trophy competition where she returned a five over par over 36 holes of the championship course.
