REIGNING champions HBRBL swept to the top of the Middleton Bowls League's A Division thanks to a 12-4 away win over Cheetham Hill CC.
Matt Gillies, at 21-7, was the best individual winner. Jimmy Hynes was a 21-5 winner, and Malcolm Percival won 21-4 as Clough beat Rhodes by 50 chalks for a 12-4 points win.
Brassey climbed off the bottom of the table by beating Chadderton Fold 203-154 in a home match. Carlton held on to top spot in B Division with a win over Prestwich. Sonny Lee won 21-4 and Fred Adams won 21-5 in an aggregate success of 193-140.
Simpson Memorial had seven winners in their away match against Whitehouse. Mike Harker's 21-6 helped Simpson to a 193-161 win.
There are now no players on a 100 per cent record in C Division, but seven players have suffered only one defeat each. They are P Gorman (HBRBL B), Ray Tracey (HBRBL B), Brian Raynor (Mather and Platt), M Bamford (Middleton Cons A), David Baggerley (Millbeck), Roy Worrall (Tonge B) and James Smith (Woodside B).
