Two days of festival fun

BRIDGE Colts Junior Football Club held its fifth annual Football Festival at Bowlee.

This tournament has quickly established itself as a must on the junior soccer calendar for many clubs from all over the north. The small-sided tournament had age groups from under sevens to under 16's. Bridge entered teams at all age groups.

The tournament was a fantastic success with a total of 168 teams. The tournament was almost 10 times as large as the inaugural event of five years ago. With 16 pitches going at any one time it was a superb advert for Bridge Colts' organisation.

The teams came from 58 different clubs. The furthest travelling teams were Peva from Merseyside and Elland from West Yorkshire. More than 450 games of small-sided football were played over two days.

The event was supported by Rochdale MBC and on Sunday the Mayor, Councillor Sultan Ali, was able to attend. He voiced his support and stated how impressed he was with the host club's organisation of the event.

Bridge had a strong showing over the weekend. The under sevens and under 10's A teams were runners-up. The under nines reached the semi-finals.

Results in the group finals were:
Under 7's: Radcliffe Borough 2, Bridge Colts 1.
Under 8's: Marauders Saxons 1, Middleton Colts A 0.
Under 9's: Littleborough B 3, Broadway Celtic C 2.
Under 10's: North End Boys 2, Bridge Colts A 0.
Under 11's: Middleton Boys A 1, Whitehouse 0.
Under 12's: Middleton Dynamo's A 2, Chadderton Park 1.
Under 13's: Moston Brook 3, Chaddy End A 0.
Under 14's: North End Boys B 3, Norden St Clements 0.
Under 15's: Roach Dynamo's A 1, Chadderton Park 0.
Under 16's: Our Lady and St Anselm's 1, Roach Dynamo 0.
