Peiris paves way to win

RUVIN Peiris hit a bright 56 as Middleton beat Norden at Towncroft on Saturday.

Norden totalled 187, a score which Middleton passed with seven wickets down. Leon Wild (53) and Asif Mujtaba (51) set the foundation for a good Norden score, but apart from those two only Stu Fern got into double figures. Mujtaba looked on for a big score until he was enticed into giving a catch to Graham. Phil Tomlinson took the wicket of Wild and took his tally to four before John Punchard polished off the tail end.

Steve Davey and Peiris scored steadily until Davey was drawn down the track by Simon Egerton and stumped. Peiris was on 51 when he was judged leg before to Asif. Jimmy Ryan made a competent 29 before he seemed to be caught in two minds and offered a simple catch.

Dufeu went for 14 and Middleton looked in some trouble, but Punchard and Tommy Astley pushed Middleton towards a win completed with Punchard and Graham at the wicket.

  • MIDDLETON seconds had to settle for two points from a drawn rain-affected match at Norden. They scored 239 for nine in reply to Norden's 247 for seven. Danny Core took three wickets.

Middleton's reply got off to a bad start with Andy Travis and John Fawkes going cheaply.
Mark Peak and Danny Royle rescued the situation with half centuries. Dave Freeman was unbeaten on 20 when time ran out.
