Colts bridge continental gap

12/ 6/2003

BRIDGE Colts under 11s, a team which includes Middleton players, successfully flew the flag for England in the recent Amsterdam football tournament.

Up against tough opposition from Holland, Germany, Denmark and Italy the local lads finished third in their age group thanks to a stirring 4-3 win over Dutch side De Germaan in a play-off.

Captain Jack Hughes, who led his side superbly throughout the competition, netted twice. Andy Roberts and Rhys McIntosh also found the target.

Manager Jim Carling said: "I think it's very important to go away as a team. The lads bonded well and did their best to represent their country."

Jim was impressed by the professional attitude of the continental sides, and hopes to apply some of their techniques for another testing domestic season which starts in September.
