The gloves are on for Salma

STUDENT Salma Zia is a big hit with the boxing coaches at Hopwood Hall College.
Salma, aged 17, an A level student at the college, has been awarded the Amateur Boxing Association of England Kid Gloves award. The scheme, sponsored by Sportsmatch, involves learning the fundamentals and manouevres of boxing without the actual contact.
Salma, who is a first year student at the boxing academy, has had to fit her training around her academic studies.
Hopwood Hall coach Jimmy Barker is delighted with Salma's success. He said: "She is a joy to teach and enjoys her time in the gym. I am delighted with this award which is fully deserved. It is a reward for her enthusiasm."
