Boat go top despite being held
12/ 3/2003
ONLY two matches were played in the Middleton Sunday League's Division One and both ended as draws.
Boarshaw Hotel held in-form team Boat and Horses, with neither side able to score. But the point was enough to put Boat at the top of the table for the first time since December.
Old Cock gained their fourth point of the season. Goals from Walsh (2), Crosby and Grantham gave them a 4-4 draw against Railway. On the mark for Railway were Rafferty (2), Crompton and Fields.
There were goals galore in the Geoff Allen Memorial Trophy.
New White Lion put six past Royal Oak with four in return. Goals from Cummings, Haywood, Conner and Ramsden kept Oak in the frame. But S Butler (2), L Butler (2), Gregory and Bennett saw Lion home.
Green (2), Nolan and Poole put Hare and Hounds into the next round. Fitzpatrick netted a consolation for Gardeners Arms.
Alliance beat Burnside 6-2 in the Challenge Shield. Hampson bagged a hat-trick. The other goals came from Savage (2) and Seel. Thomkins and Wilkinson scored for Burnside.
Also through are Radclyffe Arms who saw off Pleasant Inn in a seven-goal thriller. Brice, Humphries, Crowther and Giblin shared the goals for Radclyffe. K Coogan (2) and J Coogan netted for the losers.
