Crown lose their invincibility at top

5/ 3/2003

CROWN had been top of the Middleton Sunday League's Invincible Double Glazing Premier Division for 15 weeks.

But Sunday saw them deposed. Crown were held to a 1-1 draw by Alliance. They were overtaken by Langley Rangers who trounced Cardinal Villa 6-2.

Crown have now won only once in six matches following a terrible start to the year. Freaser claimed their goal. Fosbrook scored for Alliance who have lost only one in 10 to secure a hard-earned fourth place.

Old David had lost four on the trot and failed to change the trend as they went down 3-0 to Burnside (Langley Albion). Tudor (2) and Eaton saw Burnside to a comfortable win.

Division One leaders Alkrington Dynamos dropped two more points when held to a 2-2 draw by New White Lion. But second placed Boat and Horses were also held. They shared four goals with Railway for whom A and C Bennett found the net. Farrell and Turley netted for Alkrington.

Black Bull beat Boarshaw Hotel 5-4. Siddall grabbed a treble for Bull whose other two came from Gibbons. Wright (2), Jones and Cannon were on the mark for Hotel.

Premier Division: Langley Rangers 6, Cardinal Villa 2; Old David 0, Burnside 3; Crown 1, Alliance 1.

Division One: Alkrington Dynamo 2, New White Lion 2; Black Bull 5, Boarshaw Hotel 4; Boat and Horses 2, Railway 2.
