Exhibition match saves the day

19/ 2/2003

BAD weather and poor organisation scuppered North Manchester Rugby Union Club's chances of taking valuable points away from home.

North's first team was due to play Clitheroe, but the game was cancelled because of poor conditions. The second team didn't have any better luck. Their scheduled match, away to Sandbach fourth team, was called off when the home side failed to field a team.

But all was not lost. A frantic last-minute search for a game saw Sedgely Park's second team turn out for a memorable exhibition match.

North's makeshift contingent suffered a heavy defeat, but both teams enjoyed the spectacle which reunited some old friends.

Thursday sees Sale Sharks' Pete Anglesea and Phil Davies stage coaching sessions at Tudor Lodge. Anglesea, a popular face at North Manchester, will put players through their paces. Those interested in taking part should be at Tudor Lodge, Victoria Avenue East, Blackley, at 7pm.

This Saturday sees North welcome local rivals Broughton to Tudor Lodge, kick-off 2.30pm. North's second team is planning another fixture in March.

North are still looking for new players to help strengthen their squad. Anyone interested should call the North Manchester RUFC information line on 07753 395454.
