Goals galore in cup
5/ 2/2003
THE first round of the BASSA League's Bill Howarth Cup failed to produce any shocks, but it did produce a lot of goals.
Top scorers were Nelson who helped themselves to eight without reply from plucky Priory Unicorn who were a man short for the full match. Scott bagged a hat-trick. Bates (2), Bovis (2) and Pilkington claimed the other goals.
Kersal Celtic battled hard to overcome Premier Autos, but they lacked the fire power of Tony Carney who hit his second hat-trick in two weeks to see Autos to a 3-0 win. Taylors ended the recent good run by Ostrich. They won 7-2.
Langworthy Lads may be championship material in Division One, but they were put in their place by Priory who eased to a 4-0 win. Blackley Rangers went down 6-2 to Vine, and Lamb Inn were beaten 5-2 by Ashley Brook.
The revised second round draw is: Premier Autos v Ashley Brook; Taylor v Priory; Legs of Man or New Broom v Vine; Nelson v White Lion.
