Champions in title upset
29/ 1/2003
FOOTBALL: BASSA League champions Priory suffered a severe setback in their quest to retain the title when they were beaten 4-0 by White Lion.
Premier Autos showed no respect to cup semi-finalists New Broom as they raced into a 4-0 lead. Player-manager Tony Garnet scored three of the goals, Corcoran claiming the other.
Broom finally woke up, and Joyce pulled two back, but Corcoran dented the revival with a fifth for Autos. Broom were far from finished, and Talmage claimed a couple, but Autos held on for the points.
Ashley Brook and Langworthy Lads continued to battle it out for top spot in Division One. Brook were 3-1 away winners over Lamb Inn. Langworthy found their task a little easier. They beat Priory Unicorn 5-1.
Taylors continued their rise up the table with a 3-1 win over Vine, while Nelson looked good in their 4-1 win over Blackley Rangers.
The shock result of the day was provided by Ostrich who travelled to play Kersal Celtic and trounced them 6-1.
The Greater Manchester inter-league tie between the BASSA League and the Eccles Sunday League will be played at Salford City's Moor Lane ground on Tuesday 11 February, kick-off 7.15pm.
