Parish School teams on a high after success in fives

TEAMS from Middleton Parish Primary School scored a fantastic double in recent fives tournaments.

They won the football and netball competitions which had been organised by the School Sport Co-ordinator, and will now go on to the Borough-wide finals which will be held in Heywood in February.

The Middleton stage of the tournament was held at the Life Wellness Centre next to Furrow Primary School.

Four schools competed at netball, Alkrington Moss, Alkrington Primary, Furrow, and Middleton Parish.

The standard of play was excellent.

The High Fives contest resulted in a final between Middleton Parish and Alkrington Primary, and Parish came out on top.

During the tournament players had to change from their usual positions, and a feature was that each team had to include two boys.

The matches were umpired by Charlotte Maloney of Siddal Moor Sports College.

The tournament was organised by Joyce Ogden, the Sports Co-ordinator at Queen Elizabeth School.

Teams in the football fives were Hollin Primary, Alkrington Primary, Furrow, and Middleton Parish, and games were refereed by M Scott and J Hazeltine of Queen Elizabeth School.

The final between Parish and Alkrington Primary was a nail-biter before Parish ran out winners.

Catherine Webb, sports co-ordinator at the Parish School said: "All the pupils here really love sport, so this was a great way to introduce them to competitive sport.

"It is a great testament to the children, after so much effort had been put in to improving facilities at the shool."

The football team at the school had already celebrated some great results after receiving a new kit from the Football Foundation.
