Harbord spring shock

19/12/2002

HARBORD Harbord haven't won for 10 games in the Middleton Sunday League, but they played the game of their lives to earn a 1-1 draw against Crown.

It looked an easy game for Crown, on paper, but Harbord finished with their heads held high.

Crown, who had lost only one of their last 11 games, set about trying to boost their goals tally, but they were kept out on a heavy pitch.

Stevenson scored the goal that was enough to keep Crown at the top of the Invincible Double Glazing Premier Division. McLoughlin netted for Harbord who must have a real chance of staying in the top flight if they can reproduce this sort of performance.

Langley Albion suffered their first home defeat of the season. They were beaten 3-1 by Radclyffe Arms.

It looked a home banker, and Radclyffe seemed surprised at the ease with which they won.

Only one game beat the weather in Division One.

Boarshaw Hotel drew 1-1 with Middleton Wanderers. Smith scored for Boarshaw who are in fifth place. Parnell netted for Wanderers who haven't won for nine games and stay third from bottom of the table.

Alliance hit the top score of the day in the Hampson Pipeline Services Cup. They beat Black Bull 9-1 in a first round tie.

Hampson grabbed four goals for Alliance, and Thornton claimed three. Saved bagged the other two. Gibbons gave Bull a touch of consolation.

Hares also had a hat-trick hero in Kilroy, as they slaughtered Old Cock 8-1. Jowett led the way to goal with a couple. Healey, Foreman, and Hayes made up the total. Walsh put Cock on the scorecard.

Goals from Brown (2), Bowyer, and Campbell gave Oddfellows a 4-1 win over Pleasant for whom Coogan was on the mark.

St Clares also went into the hat for round two after their 4-2 away win over Old David.

The league will now take a break and start up again on 5 January.
