ATTENTION sports clubs, coaches, volunteers, performers - do you know, and would like to nominate, a group or person who has made a special contribution to sport in Middleton?
Rochdale Sports Development, in association with the Middleton Guardian, is looking for voluntary and amateur sports achievers of 2002 from the Borough of Rochdale.
The categories of awards, which will be presented at the special awards evening, to be held at Rochdale Cricket Club on Thursday 13 February 2003, are detailed below. The winners will go on to represent Rochdale at the Greater Manchester Sports Award Ceremony in March 2003 at Old Trafford.
COACH OF THE YEAR: A community, club or school-based coach who has made a significant impact or contribution to the development of performers in their sport.
CLUB OF THE YEAR: A sports club which has made a significant impact or contribution to the development of sport in the community.
YOUNG VOLUNTEER IN SPORT (aged 16 to 24 years): A young person who has volunteered their time and made a significant impact or contribution to the development of performers or a club, community or school.
SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO SPORT AWARD: A person who has made an outstanding contribution or impact to the development of performers or a club, community sports project or school.
SPORTS PERFORMER OF THE YEAR: A sports performer who has made significant improvement in their development as a sports player/ athlete.
Anyone involved in sport can nominate an individual or club for the Borough Awards. The nominee must reside or be a member of a club, or be a club, within the borough they have been entered for. Each member can only be entered for one category per nomination form.
All nominations must be submitted on the official form which appears in this week's Middleton Guardian (photocopies are acceptable) and returned to Andy Green, Sports Development Officer, Littleborough, OL15 9JQ and arrive no later than 31 December 2001.
There is no limit to the number of separate nominations that can be made by one organisation or individual. Coaches, sports performers, volunteers and clubs can nominate themselves.
- Please provide on a separate piece of paper a brief summary of why you felt the person or club nominated above should be given an award. Include details such as length of time involved, any specific outcomes of their work and anything about their contribution that you feel is unique. Note that after short-listing, you may be contacted in order to provide further information.
