Crown keep bobbing along at top of table

CROWN stay top of the Middleton Sunday League's Invincible Double Glazing Premier Division following their 3-2 win over Oddfellows.

Goals from Bobbin, Collins, and Frasher sorted out Oddfellows for whom Campbell bagged both goals. Despite the defeat, Oddfellows moved up to second place in the table, as they were awarded two points from a fixture against Pleasant Inn who failed to fulfil on 20 October.

Boarshaw Hotel (against Railway), Hare and Hounds (against Gardeners), Pleasant Inn (against Langley Rangers), Alliance (against Pleasant Inn), Hares (against Alkrington Dynamos), and Old Cock (against Hare and Hounds) were also awarded two points.

Alkrington Dynamo should have been credited with a 4-2 win over Boarshaw Hotel in last week's Guardian. We were supplied with a wrong result which showed Alkrington to have lost.

Back to Sunday, and two teams at the bottom end of the table came face to face. The outcome was a 2-2 draw between Cardinal Villa and Old David. Cawley and Williams netted for Villa. Jones and Lyon scored for Old David.

Pleasant Inn shared the spoils from their away match against St Clares. Jordon (2), Merrow, and Coogan found the net for Pleasant. Jackson (2), McCall, and Broomfield scored in reply.

Alkrington Dynamo lost some of the advantage of being awarded points when they slipped 1-0 to Royal Oak. A goal from Cummings settled the issue.

Gardeners Arms could have put real pressure on the top two with a win on Sunday, but they went down 5-3 to Boat and Horses in a cracking match. Holt, Maffield, Wool, Thompson, and Charlton shared the goals for Boat who cruised into second place in the table. Hall (2), and Cornett scored for Gardeners.

New White Lion boosted their promotion hopes with a terrific 5-2 away win over Black Bull. On the mark for Lion were Stott (2), Greatorex, C Bennett, and A Bennett. Goodyear hit both for Bull.

Radclyffe Arms, the Middleton League's sole survivors in the Manchester County Sunday Cup, made it through to the next round after a super away win over Flixton. Goals from Crowther, Rice, and Jones just gave them the edge.

Langley Rangers are through to the quarter-finals of the North West Champions Cup after battering Oldham Sunday League side Orb 7-3. Paul Tickle (2), Billy McCartney, Steve Gavin, Lee Matthews, Tony Clarkin, and Brian Dodson scored the magnificent seven.

In the quarter-finals Rangers will meet Whiston Eagle of the Warrington Sunday League, or Moss Side Old House from the Manchester Amateur Sunday League.
