Late points wreck North win hopes

11/12/2002

NORTH travelled to St Helens for their North Lancashire Division Two game against West Park Warriors.

North got off to a flying start with a try from David Vickers, converted by John Eady. But West Park replied with a try. David Vickers scored again, and John Eady converted to extend North's lead to 14-5. West Park scored two penalties to trail 14-11 at half time.

After the break a mistake by West Park allowed John Eady to intercept a quickly taken line-out. He raced up the pitch and set up Tim Adam who still had work to do to run the third try in from 25 metres. Another successful conversion by Eady took North into a 21-11 lead.

West Park fought back with a converted try and penalty to level the scores. Steve Coombe was sin-binned and, down to 14 players, North were under pressure.

West Park managed to break the defence with a forward pass that was missed by the referee, and a try was scored in the corner. A penalty in the last few minutes made the final score 29-21 to the home side.

North entertain Garstang on Saturday, kick-off 2 30pm.
