Crolla is a winner on superb Fox show

THE Fox ABC show, held at Moston Sports and Social Club, proved a huge success.
The opening bout was a cracker, between R Hefron of Boarshaw ABC and A Leak of Northside. The youngsters stood toe to toe in an outstanding contest that went the way of Hefron. The second bout paired Alan Hunter of Fox against John Connell from Darnhill and Heywood. Connell took a very close decision.
Nathen Da Silva of Fox met Peter Egan of Wythenshawe. The first round was close. In the second, Da Silva took a standing count of eight, but he came back strongly in the third when Egan had to take a standing count. The verdict went to Egan.
The clash between Anthony Crolla and Joe Pennington was brilliant. These are two of the best young boxers in the country. Pennington, strong and powerful, threw punches from all angles in the first round, but Crolla's left picked up points. Crolla took the nod from a fight that the crowd loved.
Fox light middleweight Denton Vassell faced Curtis Southern, a Middleton lad who boxes for Oldham Boys. Southern used his skills to the full, and he looked like being the winner until Vassell produced a strong finish to take a majority decision.
The final bout of the tournament saw Anthony Gregory of Fox up against Liam Dorrian of Salford. Fox coach Lee Haynes worked hard to keep Gregory motivated, and his work almost paid off, but Dorrian took the verdict.
