ST PETER'S winning team
A festival of fine football
5/12/2002
FOOTBALL was the name of the game for Middleton's cubs and scouts last weekend as they battled it out in a district five-a-side tournament.
More than 100 youngsters, aged eight to 15, took part in the event, at Furrow Community School, Windermere Road, Langley, on Saturday.
Co-ordinator Ian Gillett said; "It was a really good day, with plenty of sporting skill and enthusiasm, and everyone who entered thoroughly enjoyed it."
It was a memorable day for the 7th St Peter's who won two out of the three competitions, and were runners-up in third. The cub scouts from St Peter's eased onto the winner's board by demolishing 1st Parish 8-0.
In the second final of the day, St Peter's under 13's scouts had a harder time of it against 17th Thornham, and lost 4-0. But the over 13's beat 1st Boarshaw 3-0.
Mr Gillett added: "Congratulations to the winners, a big thank you to all the lads who took part, and a special thank you to all the parents and leaders who ran the teams and organised the event."
