Crown stay at the top

FOOTBALL: ONLY four matches beat the weather in the Middleton Sunday League last weekend.

Crown's continued good home form helped them to stay top of the Invincible Double Glazing Premier Division. They scored a cracking 2-1 win over St Clares to make it only one defeat in their last nine games. Collins and Hall bagged the goals for Crown who are showing title form. Ward netted for sixth placed Clares who have won four and lost four this season.

Lyons bagged a hat-trick, and Cook added two goals as Old David claimed their first home win of the season. They were 5-2 winners over Harbord/Harbord. The points gained lifted Old David off the bottom of the table for the first time since early October.

New White Lion edged Old Cock in a close Division One match. Either team could have won it, especially with Lion's home form being so unpredictable. Old Cock went into the game without a win to their name this season, but they came close to making a bit of history, only to lose 3-2.

Boarshaw Hotel had their best result of the campaign when they put four goals past Alkrington Dynamos who had not lost since 29 September. Boarshaw climbed up to fifth place with the win.

Langley Rangers take a break from domestic games on Sunday when they meet ORB, of the Oldham Sunday League, in the Champions Cup, kick-off 10 30am. The winners will go into the quarter-finals.
