JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Middleton Juniors U9s 7 Littleboro Jnrs U9s A 0

AFTER three weeks without a game in the Bowlee Mini League, Middleton Juniors under nines produced an excellent team performance, in a competitive game.

Jordan Andrews was superb in goal for Middleton, stopping several one-on-one chances before Callum Harkin opened the scoring with a low shot from the edge of the area. Ben Pearson made it 2-0 with a headed goal from a corner.

Littleborough pressed forward but went further behind when Harkin made it 3-0 to Middleton with the help of a deflection. Further goals from Mathew Harris (2), one a powerful shot through a crowded penalty area and the other the result of a goal line scramble, made it 5-0 to Middleton.

Harris Faulkner was on top form for Middleton and two excellent finishes from one on one chances by Jonathan Beisty and Adam Harkin made it 7-0 to the home side. A good, all-round team performance was completed by outstanding displays from Connell Eveleigh, Jacob Thompson, Ted Coogan and Hayden Partridge.

The player of the match was awarded to Faulkner for his enthusiasm and his play when in possession.

  • Middleton Juniors 10 Firgrove Warriors 1: MIDDLETON Juniors won 10-1 against Firgrove Warriors in the Rochdale AFC Yr 4/5 Sunday League. William Horsfield scored a hat-trick. Andrew Whitehouse and Joe Robinson got two goals apiece. Luke Burns, Ryan Maloney and Daniel completed the scoring with one each.

Horsfield was awarded player of the match showing good skill and an eye for goal.

  • Pearson Tigers 5 Middleton Juniors U11s 3: MIDDLETON Juniors under 11s took on Rochdale and Oldham Youth League leaders Pearson Tigers in what turned out to be a cracking game. Middleton had not played a game for four weeks and it showed as Pearsons took a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes. Middleton pulled a goal back when Clayton Kilroy hammered home a loose ball, but again Middleton's defence was asleep when Pearsons increased their lead to 3-1.

In the second half Middleton woke up and took control of the game, and good play between Wildman and Kilroy provided Kilroy with his second goal. Pearsons increased the lead with a penalty, but Middleton fought back again as Kilroy rounded the keeper to complete his hat trick. Middleton were now in total control but could not find the back of the net, and in the final minute Pearson Tigers broke away to make the score 5-3. Man of the match was Clayton Kilroy scoring all three goals for Juniors.
