Crown take top spot
27/11/2002
IN MIDDLETON Sunday League's Invincible Double Glazing Premier Division, Crown made the most of Langley Rangers and Langley Albion lack of league action as they beat Pleasant Inn 5-2 to go top for the first time.
And the scoreline didn't flatter Crown at all.
Oddfellows jump two places to fourth as they easily beat Old David 4-0. On the sheet for the Oddys were Welford, Campbell, Wykes and Onley, Old David stay bottom.
Carters Arms could have gone up four places with a win away at Harbord/Harbord but in the end settled for a 2-2 draw. A McLoughlin got both for Harbord keeping them in 10th spot, Rowland hit a brace for Carters that leaves them eighth.
In the first division leaders Nimble Nook changed their name to Boat and Horses but, didn't change their winning ways, as on Sunday they continued their fine form to see off the new White Lion away 5-1. Charlton hit a hat-trick, Wood and Thompson got the others, and Dean Greatorex got the single for the Lion. This makes one defeat from eight games for the Boat as they keep ahead of Alkrington Dynamo in second place.
Dynamo also kept up their winning sequence as they hammered nine past a dispirited Old Cock. There were two apiece from Jones, Matthews and Wilson, Turley, Booth and Sullivan all got one each to keep the heat on the Boat. Armitage got the single for Old Cock who, say what you will about them, keep going despite not winning a league game all season.
Royal Oak put four past the Gardeners Arms and climbed over them to take their third spot courtesy of goals by Fisher, Cummings, Hallworth and Conners, Cornett Hall got the two for the Gardeners who drop to fourth.
Hare and Hounds consolidated their hard earned sixth place with an away win at Middleton Wanderers as Pickford hit a tremendous four goals. Rigby got the other for the Hare as they won 5-3.
A brace each from Siddhall and Barnes for the Black Bull put paid to the Railway's hopes of a home win, and helped Bull climb one place to fifth, Bowker and Rafferty scored for the Railway as they lost 4-2.
In the Manchester county cup on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline were Langley Rangers who went out at Moss Side. But still carrying the flag for the league are the Radcliffe Arms who hit a magnificent ten goals without reply. Crowther got three, Edwards and Easton hit two each with Kingstone, Bradley and Giblin all getting on the scoresheet.
