Junior football round-up

21/11/2002

MOSTON Brook edged a 2-1 win over Chaddy End B in a Manchester Mini League under 9s match.

Brook were brilliant in the first half. They created many chances, and passed well, but only two goals were scored. The first came from Jonathen Foggerty who took on Chaddy End's defence. Jordan Gerry then scored with an excellent shot that left the keeper shell-shocked.

Moston became a little complacent in the second half, and Chaddy End got past their defence to score. It then became a fight, as Chaddy got a boost and went on to play very well, nearly scoring again. Jordan Ferns made an excellent crucial save to keep Moston in front. Jonathen Foggerty was player of the match, and his award was well deserved, as he played all over the pitch, won all the tackles, and showed tremendous skill.

  • MOSTON Brook A under 8s bounced back with a good 4-0 win over Moston Juniors B. With everything to play for in the second half, Moston Brook opened the scoring through Ryan Jennings. It was his first for the club. Joe Knott played a great pass for Daniel Allatt to score the second, then Ryan Jennings scored his second after a great pass from Lewis Hughes.

James Robinson played a through ball to Daniel Allatt who was brought down to give Moston Brook a freekick. Allatt took the kick and put the ball into a top corner of the net to make the score 4-0. The outcome could have been so different if it hadn't been for Luke Joyce who made some excellent saves, but it was Lewis Hughes who was named player of the match for his non-stop running.

  • Swinton Boys 2 Midd Dynamos 5: THIS was second time round for these teams who had met on the opening day of the season when Swinton walked away with the points. It was Swinton who took the lead after 10 minutes. It was a good goal which resulted in an injury for Dynamos' keeper. Dynamos were down to 10 men until the late arrival of their sub. It was up to Alex Odell to take responsibility, and the keeper's shirt, and he made an excellent stand in.

Dynamos equalised on 20 minutes when a brilliant strike from McLean gave the keeper no chance. Five minutes later Dynamos took the lead. The goal came from a freekick 25 yards out. McLean delivered a perfect ball and Muzza flicked it off the back of his head into the back of the net. Muzza again found himself facing goal when Louis Chesters delivered a good ball to his feet, and he needed only to strike it and watch it land in the net.

Swinton mounted attacks, but the Middleton defence of Kendrick, McGovern, Grey, and Brewster held firm until a mistake allowed Swinton back in. The game became a bit frantic, with both teams pulling out all the stops, and it was Dynamos who won the battle. Luke Williams won the ball in his own half and put a good ball through to chesters. Chesters then fed a great ball through to Callum O'Connor who broke the offside trap and found himself one on one with the keeper to chip the ball into the net.

With five minutes to go Dynamos made sure of the win when they were awarded a penalty after Aaron Frost had been brought down in the box. McLean stepped up to take the kick, but then realised that Muzza was on a hat-trick, and stepped back for his team-mate to score. It was a brilliant performance by all the Dynamos, but the player of the match was Luke Williams who raised his game and put on a good show.

  • Langley 2 Bridge Colts 4: LANGLEY under 13s gave Bridge a mighty shake when they twice took the lead, but Bridge took the spoils thanks to two late goals. Langley's scorers were Ben Robins and Anthony Morris, and player of the match was Michael Atkin. Langley's manager believed that team spirit helped the performance, and predicted that glory days are around the corner.
