League president calls 'over' on his top job

20/11/2002

THE Central Lancashire Cricket League said farewell to its president of five years, Paul Rocca, during the annual presentation dinner which was held at Milnrow Cricket Club.

League chairman David Shepherd paid tribute to Mr Rocca whom he described as 'a players president' who had shown great enthusiasm for the job.

Mr Rocca's final act as president was to award the President's Cup, for the league's outstanding cricketer, to Middleton's Lee Wolstenholme.

The Moonrakers' captain, the league's leading wicket taker for the fourth year running, also claimed the Clifford Pickup Cup for his performance with the ball.

The prestigious Sir Frank Worrell trophy, for the league's leading run scorer, went to Heywood youngster Bobby Cross.

Cross, aged 19, scored 949 runs at an average of 55.82. His highest score was 98, and he had eight innings of 50 or more. Cross also collected the Lal Vohra trophy for young player of the year.

The Littleborough Supporters Club trophy, for best all-rounder, was won by Oldham's Stuart Moor.
