STEVE in action
Thai fight sensation
13/11/2002
THAI boxing sensation Steve Donnelly continued his impressive form with a victory over Sheffield's Wesley Smith last weekend.
The 24-year-old, of Colindale Avenue, Blackley, was handed a unanimous points decision in the five-round contest at Altrincham Leisure Centre, during the Beast Masters promotion, on Sunday.
He said: "I was delighted with the way I handled him. I felt like I controlled the fight, and really kicked him up. He was technically very good, but by the third round it was obvious I was in a different league. My body kicking just wore him down."
The victory extended Steve's unbeaten run to four.
He added: "I am getting a lot more confident now, and I think it is starting to show in my game. I have a lot more belief in my ability. My last three fights have been the best of my career so far."
Steve, who represents Altrincham-based gym Pele's, now intends to take a well-earned break following a hectic few months which saw him travel to Thailand for a training exercise.
"I'm just going to relax for a while," he said. "But I'm hoping to have one more fight before Christmas."
