Goalball girls get chance of glory

AFTER two years of blood, sweat, and many, many tears of disappointment, Emma Jones, of Middleton, and Sally-Anne Jackson have been chosen to join the British Blind Sport Great Britain Junior Ladies goalball team.

The team are jetting out to the USA today (Wednesday) to play in the annual international goalball invitational tournament in Florida.

This is not the first time the Rochdale BBS team girls have been selected for this prestigious event, but it will be their last chance to compete in it, as both will be too old for inclusion in next year's squad.

They were both in the squad last year, but the big event was cancelled due to the events of 11 September.

There were fears that last year's huge disappointment would have been the final straw for the girls who had worked so hard for their places.

But both were determined not to let go of their dream easily, and they knuckled down to training with both their club and the international squad.

Their second international call-up is just reward for their talent and commitment to their chosen sport.
