A day to forget

31/ 7/2002

CRICKET: CHEETHAM Hill's visit to Woodbank is bound to be a day they will want to forget.

Woodbank won the toss and elected to bat. They used their full 50 overs in the baking heat while the Hill bowlers toiled. Nigel Holder (133 not out) and Ridehough (93) helped Woodbank to 283 for six. Mirad Barkatali bowled 13 overs for 39 only to see his last go for 22 runs. Steve Farnell took four for 33 in 12 overs.

Hill never looked in the chase and collapsed to 96 all out (Kamran Ditta 18, Tyrone McClean 11, Brad Flegg 18, and Murad Barkatali 14 not out).

Hill seconds didn't fare much better at Catherine Road. Electing to bat first they made 105 all out. Shiraz Ahmed hit a sparkling 29. This score proved far too low, and Woodbank seconds made the needed runs in only 17 overs, without losing a wicket
