Blackley on a high with another success

BOWLS: HIGHER Blackley RBL collected another 11 Middleton Bowling League points in the defeat of Rhodes 'A'.

Graham Tomlinson and Mark Connolly both won 21-6 and helped the leaders to a 196-130 aggregate victory.

Tonge A's chances of finishing third diminished when they collected only six points at Carlton BC. A 21-6 win from Tonge's Steve Copeland was one of only four individual successes as the home team took the aggregate 177-165 for a 9-6 points win.

In B Division, Mather and Platt had a close aggregate win over Rhodes B. Platt's had six individual winners, the best being M Bryne's 21-9, and they took the aggregate 167-164.

St Thomas More kept up their challenge by collecting 10.5 points. It could have been better if their seven individual winners could have taken the aggregate, but a 21-6 win from Bill Crompton, and a 21-3 win from Donny Wilkinson meant that Woodside A took the extra three points with a 185-176 aggregate

Cheetham Hill CC B had a 29 chalks aggregate home win over Boarshaw WMC in their C Division match. Ronnie Baines kept up his 100 per cent record with a 21-14 win, and 21-6 win from Tom Topham enabled CHCC to a 189-160 aggregate.

Good 21-6 wins from B Dronsfield and J Dance were not enough to stop Tonge losing the aggregate 168-175 to Woodside B.

Chadderton Fold became the first team to reach the semi-finals of the League Cup when they scored a convincing 30 chalks aggregate win. They gave Boarshaw WMC a 51 chalks advantage, and had reduced that to 11 after the first five games, Darren Mountford's 21-7 being the best. Another 21-7 win, from Keith Dennis, plus another three individual wins in the second half, meant a 224-194 aggregate win and a place in the semi-finals at Tonge on 18 August.
