Moonrakers Punch their way to victory

1/ 7/2002

CLL ROUND-UP: Seven wickets from John Punchard helped Middleton to a six-wicket win in a low-scoring game against Oldham.

Elsewhere Rochdale were the beneficiaries from a shock result as Stand beat leaders Littleborough. Stand pro Martin Hegg, brother of Lancashire star Warren, took 4-24 to rack up the Whitefield club's second win of the season. Littleborough slumped to 99 all out, although they were 50-9 at one stage. And, despite Phil Deakin taking 4-26 for Littleborough, Stand knocked off the runs and put a dent in their opponents' title ambitions.

Rochdale took full advantage, securing an easy 10-wicket win over Heywood to take over at the top. An unbeaten 110 from pro Asif Mujtaba and 55 not out by Simon North gave Norden victory over Unsworth.

Lee Storey followed last week's hat-trick with 5-33 in Milnrow's five-wicket win over Walsden. Both pros earned their money at The Paddock where Saeed Anwar made 134 for Crompton in their win over Royton, for whom Siddiqui made 100.

  • BOTH Wood Cup semi-finals will resume tonight (6.30pm) after rain stopped play in the two matches. Norden's Asif Mujtaba was unbeaten on 60 before a downpour with 17 overs left against Werneth, while Unsworth will continue on 160-5 with seven overs to go against Rochdale.
