GOLF: THE rise and rise of Rachel Connor, the 11-year-old daughter of Manchester professional Brian Connor, goes on unabated.
Playing off 18, Rachel, pictured above, came second, with a score of 66, in the Lancashire County girls' under-16 competition played at Haydock. Then, having been docked two shots because of that impressive show, she took the Lancashire schools under-16 title, at Leyland, with a 71.
Local knowledge seems to have done the trick for Liam Kindon in Manchester's Hulbert Trophy, the tough open scratch 36-holes competition. His 144 total was enough to edge out club colleague Roger Smithies, and Oldham's Alan Squires, by one. A day earlier Peter Wright, off 9, took the Macalister Shield with an impressive 66.
