29/ 5/2002

ROYAL Oak gained their first win of the season in the J W Lees Charity Cricket League when they beat defending champions Cotton Tree.

Tree were bowled out for 58, then an unbeaten 23 from Derek Hardman saw Oak home by three wickets.

Ash have taken over at the top of the table from Crown. They beat previously unbeaten Tommyfields by eight wickets. Tommyfields were all out for 91. Ash cruised home at 94 for two.

Crown also lost their unbeaten tag when they went down by five wickets to Gardeners. Paul Beers hit 20 as Crown totalled 71. Mick Conner took three for two. Tony Bradley (23) and Jason Hetherington (17 not out) saw Gardeners to their win.

The fixture between White Hart and Carters wasn't played. The teams were at different venues, waiting for each other.

  • CHEETHAM Hill had a frustrating weekend, as the rain affected both of their scheduled games. On Saturday they restricted Denton West to 151 all out in 47 overs. Excellent bowling brought Mohammed Rafiq an five for 18 return in 11 overs, and he was well supported by Brad Flegg who took three for four in four overs. The visitors batting was held together by Senior and Hague, with 44 and 45 respectively. Rain then interrupted play, leaving Cheetham Hill with less than their allocated 53 overs. Matthew Mallard made 53, and Flegg, Rafiq, and Imran Murza all chipped in, but batsmen perished going for a win, and Hill fell 13 runs short of their target.
