Turley leads the way

BOWLS: THE best away result of the week in the Middleton Bowls League came in C Division.

Middleton Cons A, technically the away team, beat Middleton Cons B 204-175. Paul Turley was the best individual winner at 21-8. Woodside B had a 15 chalks aggregate away win over Crumpsall Cons. Robert Seal and Robert Rothwell both returned 21-8 cards, and J Smith won 21-5.

The first maximum points win of the season came in A Division. HBRBL had 10 individual winners against Prestwich BC, the best being Alan Derench at 21-5. Steve Copeland won 21-6 as Tonge A won their away match against Rhodes A.

Clough continued their good start to the season in B Division. They were 12-4 points winners at Simpson Memorial. Jimmy Hynes was a 21-7 winner in the 190-161 aggregate win. Mather and Platt also took 12 points as they beat Embassy. Tony Graham was a 21-4 winner for Mather who took the aggregate 160-149.

The league's President's Handicap has had to be cancelled due to a lack of entries. The next handicap will be the pairs knockout, at Cheetham Hill CC, on Sunday 7 July.
