Netball team so close to glory

27/ 3/2002

OUR Lady of Mount Carmel RC School have narrowly failed in their bid to become the netball champions of Manchester.

After battling through the preliminary and qualifying rounds the Year Six team from the school on Wilson Road, Blackley, faced St Bede's from Whalley Range in the semi-finals of the city's knockout competition.

Our Lady's edged through 3-2 in a close game and took their place in the final at Wythenshawe, against the fancied St Catherine's, from Didsbury. The favourites lived up to their billing by winning 20-5.

Deputy head Celene Boylan, said: "The girls were a bit disappointed to lose but in the end they were pleased to have come second in Manchester."

The girls could end the season with some silverware in the cabinet, as they are currently top of the North Manchester Schools League with only a couple of games to go.
