Woodman's hopes are left in tatters

LANGLEY Woodman lost any hope they had of winning the Middleton Sunday League title when they went down 5-3to Oddfellows in the Invincible Double Glazing Premier Division.

Woodman still have four games to play, but they couldn't be tougher, with Langley Rangers (twice), Langley Albion, and St Clares queuing up to face them. Colin Bennett did his best to keep Woodman's hopes going by scoring a hat-trick, but goals from Brown, Bowyer, Mark Wykes, Chris Bailey, and Holt did the trick for Oddfellows.

Langley Albion got back to winning ways by beating Crown 4-2. Dave Thomkins (2), Andy Shirlock, and Ken Tudor provided Albion with their first win since 25 November. Lee Collins bagged both for the losers whose mini revival came to an end.

Alliance moved up to sixth place in the table by scoring a 5-2 away win over Old David. Hughes (2), Seal, Fosbrook, and Lewis scored for Alliance. McLoughlin and Kieron Moore netted in reply.

On paper, St Clares look the best bet for the title. They are only three points behind leaders Langley Albion, and they have played three games less than their rivals. Clares went through to round two of the Challenge Shield as Tony Birch and Alan Lord each scored two in a 5-2 win over Cardinal Villa. Brian Clegg made up the total. Derbyshire and Rawley were on target for Villa.

Black Bull moved up three places, to fourth, in Division One, as they demolished Hares 6-3. Siddall grabbed a hat-trick, with Gibbons, Dalton, and Oliver completing the scoring for Bull. Storie and Worsley got the goals for Second Division bound Hares.

Harbord/Harbord kept top spot by seeing off third placed Carters Arms by the odd goal in five. Carters could have gone to the top with a win, and Steve Coomes did his best to give it to them as he hit two goals. Darcy, Cannon, and Morney bagged the all important goals for Harbord.
