Rangers go top as Clares' run ends

13/ 3/2002

ST CLARES' fantastic run came to an end last weekend when they were beaten 2-1 by Langley Rangers in the Middleton Sunday League's Invincible Double Glazing Premier Division.

The win took Rangers to the top of the table, a position which had been held by Langley Albion since 9 September. Rangers have won their last six matches. The latest win was down to goals from Lee Wilkinson and Ged Ramplin.

Clares are in third place, two points behind Albion, and three behind Rangers, and they have two games in hand on both. A lot could be decided this coming weekend when Clares travel to play Albion.

Albion were dumped out of the Manchester County Sunday Cup by Stockport League team Norris Albion. Norris, the reigning North West Champions of Champions trophy holders, hit 11 goals with only two in reply.

Fixtures - Invincible Double Glazing Premier Division: Alliance v Radclyffe Arms; Cardinal Villa v Langley Woodman; Langley Albion v St Clares; Old David v Langley Rangers. Geoff Allen Memorial Trophy round one: Black Bull v Roebuck; Pleasant Inn v Hares. Committee Shield: Boarshaw Hotel v Railway; Royal Oak v Hopwood Arms.
