Barker takes the win

JAMES Barker, aged 12, of Oldham Boys ABC, came up against J Cunningham, of Doncaster.
Cunningham, the Yorkshire champion, with six wins in seven contests, must have expected to score another win. But he had reckoned without Barker who was out to avenge a recent countback decision which robbed him of a victory in the North West Schools finals.
Barker worked hard and well behind his lead hand, and he caught Cunningham with solid right crosses to the head.
In the final round Barker was in control, and he attacked with combinations to the head and body. Barker took the verdict.
The problem now is getting contests for Barker who has scored nine wins in 11 contests. He is running out of experienced opponents.
