National chance for Fox boxer

MOSTON'S Anthony Crolla, from the Fox Boxing Club, has won through to the National Schools finals after a convincing win at Skelmersdale Sports Centre.

Crolla had it all to prove, because his opponent - Birmingham's Robert Lee - had beaten him last year on his way to becoming National Champion.

Crolla started strongly, and good use of the left jab easily gave him the first round. A stunning left-right combination from Crolla, in the second round, saw Lee given a standing eight count by the referee.

Sensing defeat, Lee came out strongly looking for a knockout in the final round, but Crolla went to toe with him and traded punches until the final bell.

In the end Crolla was given a comfortable 16 to 4 decision.

He now goes to Barnsley Leisure Centre, to meet the Southern champion, in two weeks' time.
