Becky bats on without a team

BECKY Dawson is the latest recruit to join the England rounders team - even though she does not currently play the game.

For the last six months the 17-year-old has been left without a team, and the nearest she has got to a bat and ball has been working part time in a sports shop.

But that hasn't stopped the England selectors from picking her for the under-17s side, primarily for her skills as a backstop. She has already received her kit, and is now waiting her call up for the first fixture.

Becky, of Cleworth Road, Middleton, said: "I am very proud to be selected for the side. I was picked because I play back-stop, but I can also hit the ball a bit as well."

She first started playing the game when she was a pupil at Middleton Parish School, Springfield Road, and continued when she moved to Crompton House School, Shaw.

Unfortunately, when Becky moved into the sixth form, to study A-levels, she found herself without a team to play for because of her age, and she is now on the look out for a new one.
