Shaw gains the draw for town team

NEWLY promoted Middleton carried a proud unbeaten record into their Lancashire Super League Division Two match at Hyde.

First on for Middleton was Darrio Padron who comfortably won 3-0. Dave Orton encountered doubles trouble and slipped to a 3-1 defeat, and Middleton also lost the next two games to go 3-1 down.

Kenny Richardson then produced a man of the match performance. He pulled one back with a 3-0 win and an average of 76.42.

Darren Lathen levelled the match score with a 3-0 win, but John Wellens was beaten 3-2 despite hitting 12 tons for an average of 84.77.

Steve Service suffered his first defeat of the season, but he scored six tons and a maximum, and averaged 77.45.

Middleton had to win the next two games.

Dave Cullen easily won 3-1, and it was all down to Steve Shaw who held his nerve and produced a fine 3-1 win to make it 5-5. Shaw hit seven tons, and a 180. He averaged 69.12.

The result kept Middleton at the top of the table with six matches to go.
