MIDDLETON Cricket Club could be the first visiting team to Unsworth's new ground.

The Central Lancashire League fixtures for 2002 were released this week, and Middleton's first game should be at Unsworth on Sunday 21 April. But the opening day has been hit by bad weather problems in past seasons.

If it happens again, Middleton's first league game will be on Sunday 28 April when they travel to play Norden. They will be without a match the previous day due to an odd number of teams in the league.

Their first home league match will be five "rounds" into the season - on Sunday 5 May - when they will entertain Crompton.

The season will end with a double header on the weekend of 7/8 September. Middleton will play Ashton on the Saturday, at Towncroft, while the Sunday sees a trip to play Rochdale.
