Gomez pulls out of Arena fight

MICHAEL Gomez has been forced to pull out of his WBO Intercontinental title defence next month.

The all-action fighter, who boxes out of the Collyhurst and Moston stable, has been ill and will not fight on the bill at the MEN Arena on 9 February

Trainer Brian Hughes said Gomez had been suffering from a virus since before Christmas and has not fully recovered.

Top of the bill is Ricky Hatton who defends his WBU World Light-Welterweight Title for the fifth time against a fighter yet to be named. Former Collyhurst and Moston light middleweight Anthony Farnell is also due to fight.

The undercard will feature Gomez stablemates light middleweight Thomas McDonagh and welterweights Michael Jennings and David Barnes.
