Top teams stage a thriller

DARTS: JOINERS and Gardeners (Sandy Lane) fought out a thrilling 3-3 and a set tie in the Middleton Men’s Monday League last week.

The result enabled Gardeners (Grimshaw Lane) to move within two and half points of the leaders by beating Albion 4-3.

A 16-darter from Steve Shaw was the highlight of the 5-2 win enjoyed by Friendship over Gardeners (Grimshaw Lane) in the Middleton Thursday League.

Friendship are top of the table, six and a half points ahead of joint second placed Grove (Blackley) and White Hart.

Grove beat White Hart 4-2 and a set last week.

Friendship (18 points) lead the race for the Gallon title, having won all nine of their games.

They are followed by Middleton Junction (14), Higher Blackley Con Club (12), White House (11) and seven teams all on 10 points.

Gardeners (Grimshaw Lane), surely the busiest darts pub in Middleton, made it through to the second round of the Failsworth Premier League’s team knockout with victory over Phoenix (Newton Heath) on the log-end board.

Having won all their matches in the first half of the season in the Middleton Ladies League, Friendship and Carters last week began the second half of the campaign with victories.

Friendship didn't have things entirely all their own way in beating division one basement team The Nook 5-2.

Neither did second division leaders Carters who overcame Middleton Con Club 4-3.
